Early Childhood Course
2019-2020 Early Childhood Adult Learners
Early Childhood Course (2 1/2- 6 years old)
The program consists of an Academic Phase and Practicum Phase.
The Academic Phase (340.5 Clock Hours) includes Montessori theory and practice; classroom management and techniques for beginning a Montessori class; and the use, sequence and method of presentation of the Montessori didactic materials in all curriculum areas. The Academic Phase is hands-on. Lectures alternate with laboratory sessions with the Montessori materials under the direction of experienced staff.
Classes meet for seven weeks during the summer Academic Phase, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
The Practicum Phase (540 + Clock Hours) consists of an academic year in a Montessori school. During the practicum, the adult learner is able to apply all that she/he has learned during the academic phase, while under the supervision of a certified Montessori teacher, in a prepared environment with children 2½ to 6 years old. Guidance will be provided by the MMTEC Practicum Coordinator who will work closely with the adult learner and supervising teacher to insure the adult learner's progress and growth in classroom leadership. A self-directed practicum may be arranged at an additional fee for the adult learner who has had previous classroom experience. Practicum sites need to be approved by MMTEC.
Four Weekend Seminars are held at MMTEC during the practicum phase. The seminars include review and extensions of curriculum and review of theory and methodology. Attendance is mandatory for adult learners.
Adult learners should plan to budget approximately $300.00 for additional materials, books, notebooks, etc. which may be required during the course. Curriculum manuals are not included in the tuition costs.
