Early Childhood Class of 2012-2013

Early Childhood Program  (2 1/2- 6 years old)
The program consists of an Academic Phase and Internship Phase.

The Academic Phase (344 Clock Hours) includes Montessori theory and practice; classroom management and techniques for beginning a Montessori class; and the use, sequence and method of presentation of the Montessori didactic materials in all curriculum areas. The Academic Phase is hands-on. Lectures alternate with laboratory sessions with the Montessori materials under the direction of experienced staff.

Classes meet for seven weeks during the summer Academic Phase, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and one evening a week during weeks two through six.

The Internship Phase (700 Clock Hours) consists of an academic year in an MMTEC approved Montessori school. During the internship, the adult learner is able to apply all that she/he has learned during the academic phase, while under the
supervision of a certified Montessori teacher, in a prepared environment with children 2½ to 6 years old. Guidance will be provided by an MMTEC staff member who will work closely with the adult learner and supervising teacher to insure the adult learner's progress and growth in classroom management. A self-directed internship may be arranged at an additional fee for the adult learner who has had previous classroom experience. Internship sites are available throughout the country.

Three Weekend Seminars are held at the training center during the internship year. The seminars include review and extensions of curriculum, review of theory and methodology, guest lecturers, and workshops. Attendance is mandatory for certification candidates.

Adult learners should plan to budget approximately $300.00 for additional materials, books, notebooks, etc. which may
be required during the course. Curriculum manuals are not included in the tuition costs.
